Services on the Internet
Cloud Computing means instead of all the computer hardware and software you’re using sitting on your system, or somewhere inside your company’s network or your organization’s network, Could provider provides you with computing, networking and storage facilities as a service over the Internet, mostly in a completely seamless way.
Cloud computing is a word that means different things to different people to different places. For some point of view, it is another way of describing IT (information technology) “outsourcing”; others use it to mean any computing service provided over the network, and some define it as any bought-in computer service you use that sits outside your firewall or systems.
Types of Cloud
On a cloud deployment model, we can classify cloud services in three basic categories.
- Public
- Private
- Hybrid
Based on a service layer where service exist, It can be one of below.
- Iaas (Infrastructure-as-a-Service)
- Virtualized CPU, Hard-disk, Network
- Paas (Platform-as-a-Service)
- Virtualized Operating System, Libraries, Programming languages
- Saas (Software-as-a-Service)
- Virtualized Applications
Public Cloud
Whenever we talk about the public cloud, it means that the whole computing infrastructure or network is located on the premises of a cloud computing company that offers the cloud service. The location remains, thus, separate from the customer and it has no physical control over the infrastructure.
As public clouds use shared resources, they do excel mostly in performance but are also most vulnerable to various attacks. The security level of a public cloud is not much strong as a private cloud.
Private Cloud
Private Cloud provides the same benefits as Public Cloud but uses its dedicated, private hardware. It means using a cloud infrastructure (network) solely by one customer or organization. It is not shared with others, yet it is remotely located. The companies have an option of choosing an on-premise private cloud, which is more expensive, but they have physical control over the infrastructure
The security and control level is highest while using a private network. Yet, the cost reduction can be minimal, if the company needs to invest in an on-premise cloud infrastructure. It is more expensive than the public cloud because of on-premise systems.
Hybrid Cloud
Hybrid cloud means, using both private and public clouds, depending on their purpose.
For example, the public cloud could be used to interact with customers, while keeping their data secured through a private cloud.
Most people associate traditional public cloud service with elastic scalability and the ability to handle constant shifts in demand. However, performance issues can arise for certain data-intensive or high-availability workloads.
