GPS vehicle tracking system particular used to track the vehicle with live location and other parameters. Vehicle tracking systems are used for fleet tracking, routing, dispatching and security. Every vehicle tracking system developed on basis of specific customizes requirements. There are various applications of vehicle tracking systems which we have mentioned in this article.
We are developing a various tracking system for our clients in different domains. Our aim is to develop the best quality product from product idea. Here, we will explain about system architecture of a GPS vehicle tracking system with its applications. Below, the system architecture of GPS vehicle tracking is shown.
Vehicle tracking system architecture is divided into two parts: In-vehicle device unit and tracking server unit. The in-vehicle device consists of a GPS module, GSM module and microcontroller ARM LPC2148. The in-vehicle tracking device is installed into the vehicle. The in-vehicle device unit is used for getting current information of vehicle location, fuel status, vehicle battery status and speed of the vehicle.
GPS Receiver: GPS receiver is responsible for tracking the live location of the receiver. This information is in raw data format. So, it is processed to convert this raw data into useful information in order to display the data in map format. GPS module is used for this purpose.
CPU: Central processing unit is responsible for processed raw data that is given by the GPS module. CPU transmits all the required data to the transceiver. CPU is a bridge between the GPS receiver, vehicle and remote transceiver. Once all data are extracted and processed, they are transmitted to the transceiver which forwards it to end-user. The transceiver is providing this information to the end-user.
Board Design: The interface circuit of the in-vehicle device consists of a GPS module and microcontroller. GPS houses board interface connector, SIM reader, GPS antenna connector and GSM antenna connector.
GPS module: It is used to get the exact location of the device in terms of longitude and latitude. GPS receiver receives the data from GPS satellites in the form of a data signal. The data which are received are sent to ARM and it is stored in EPROM.
We have explained major units of the vehicle tracking system. Now, let us understand applications of GPS vehicle tracking system.
Applications of Vehicle GPS Tracking Systems
Nowadays vehicle tracking system commonly uses GPS technology. There are two types of tracking system in the market; Active and passive tracking system. Passive devices store GPS location and speed whereas, active device collect the same data but it transmits the data in real-time via cellular or satellite networks.
Many modern vehicle tracking devices combine both active and passive tracking system: when a cellular network is available that time tracking device transmits data to the server; when network is not available that time data stores in the internal memory and transmit the data when network is available. We have shown this combination into the architecture of a GPS vehicle tracking system.
GPS vehicle tracking system has a wide range of applications. The applications of GPS vehicle tracking system are in both commercial and personal space.
Asset Tracking Device: GPS tracking device used for asset tracking of valuable goods of the companies. Companies can monitor the physical location of their valuable assets using a GPS tracking system and also get an update of movement status across different geographical locations. These devices are designed, such that they can be triggered remotely to trace the route used to deliver goods.
Asset Audit: Some companies are using GPS tracking system for asset audit. With the introduction of RFID technology and GPS tracking system, companies can deploy systems which are self-auditable for asset auditable in the real-time based current state of inventory.
Field Service Management: Many companies which are dealing in the field service sector, they have adopted GPS tracking system. Using GPS tracking, the company can know which engineer is near to the client’s location; As a result, companies offer speedy service to their customers and win their satisfaction.
Trailer Tracking: Many logistic companies have deployed a vehicle GPS tracking device in the trailer. There are many advantages of deployment of this system such as prevents trailer theft and reduction in fuel cost etc.
Sales Field: Salesman can easily get the direction of the client’s location in an unknown area and can offer services to them. In many developing countries, there are challenges to reach the unknown area to offer services. Using GPS tracker, the salesperson can easily get the location and directions of clients.
Observe Behavior of Driver: Vehicle tracking system can give information about speedy driving. In the case of rough driving, the owner can know the speed of the vehicle. Nowadays, logistic companies and school organizations have deployed a vehicle tracking system. It is also useful in harsh braking and road accidents.
